This is the real thing. After reading the reviews on other vendors who were selling these, I was a little leery about buying them. I can honestly report that these (the ones sold by Outdoor Shopping) are the real thing. I've opened several cans with them now, and there is no sign of metal fatigue, bending or the blade coming off, as happens all too often with the cheap imitations that are being sold by many people. I've demo'd these can openers for several people at work, and they want them now also. I'll be getting more from this vendor - I'll add my order in with theirs.

Open the P-51 all the way. Insert the notch on the P-51 opener onto the can's lid lip and push the opener's sharp tang all the way down into the lid to start your first cut. It's not that hard to do, if the notch in the opener is aligned with the can's raised lid lip. After that, keep the opener's notch on the lid lip and back up the opener a bit and push the pointed tang down and cut the lid some more. Repeat until the lid is free from the can. There will be small, sharp, rough edges on the can's lid and the opened can itself, so be careful if you dig out the can's contents with your fingers.
YouTube has instructional videos if you need a visual guide. Put " P-38 can opener " into their search engine. A P-51 is a large version of a P-38. Personally, I prefer the P-51 which I why I ordered three (one for each back pack and one for the glove box). I've seen some can openers like these with small spoons as part of the opener.
