When handles are squeezed closed, a small toggle locks into place, holding the opener closed around the edge of the can. This lock grip does the work that usually requires a firm, steady hold from the user, thus reducing stress on hand, wrist, and fingers. The two handles are sheathed in velvety rubber. The upper part of the opener is made of plastic with a similar texture. Its broad crank handle has an indentation on each side that serves as a thumb grip for more leverage during cranking. Gears serve as grip and blade, set at an angle designed to cut firmly and evenly.
The Trudeau ergonomic can opener is not dishwasher-safe. Wash by hand without immersing in water or holding under running tap. Use a damp cloth or dish brush to clean gears, and towel dry thoroughly when clean. The opener measures 7-1/2 by 3 by 3-1/4 inches. Trudeau guarantees this product with a five-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. --Garland Withers

After using it for 2 months it wouldn't open anything at all. Junk. By This review is from: Trudeau Ergonomic Can Opener (Kitchen) I have had this several years and was looking for a spare one, just in case.....I am very happy with the can opener, much better then a Kitchenaid. Possibly the best hand crank I have ever owned. By This review is from: Trudeau Ergonomic Can Opener (Kitchen) Great looks and a thumb-operated, locking latch that keeps the handles closed on the can seems like a great start. Unfortunately, it ends there. I've used mine for 2 years, and I always have to cock the can at an angle against the countertop to make this opener grip the rim of the can and cut through the lid. Also, I have had to remove the top (idler) gear and cutting wheel a bunch of times to de-rust it (using a dremel and a fine wire wheel). Obviously, a can opener needs to be washed after most, if not all, uses. You wouldn't open a can of tuna in oil and then just toss a tuna-smelling can opener in your kitchen drawer. But the awesome designers or engineers who built this opener made the metal parts out of steel that will rust. Why??? .... I have no idea. So when you wash and rinse it, you've got to shake out as much water as possible, to keep the metal parts from rusting. If not dried completely, the darn gear and cutting wheel can rust up solid on its axel. That...Read more |
