Well I have to say that of the many fine advantages of this Hamilton Beach can opener, the one that I get the most excitement from is that it opens cans! Not only that, but it opens cans well! Not only that, it is extremely inexpensive!

Our opener, the one that you see here, has been in almost perpetual use for well over three years now. We have had absolutely no problems with it and it works as well now (I just opened five cans to make chili) as it did the day that we bought it. I have yet to find the can that it cannot open, and open smoothly, with no hassle what so every.

Now as with any finely crafted piece of precision equipment, you need to take care of it. As another reviewer here has pointed out (Wings2), you do need to clean the cutting assembly on a regular basis. This assembly gets so nasty that I cannot for the life of me figure out why you would not do that anyway, even if it did not effect the performance of the opener. Yukie! Not cleaning...Read more

It's finally wearing out after two years of multiple daily use. For the price, I'll buy another instead of searching for parts.

- It opens any size or shape can without complaint, thoroughly, consistently, and easily.

- It's quiet.

- It's attractive.

- The opened cans are smooth, without burrs or edges to cut you.

- The cutting assembly is easy to remove for cleaning, easy to clean, and easy to replace.

I'd guess that the reviewer who gave this well designed unit such a bad rating failed to regularly clean the cutting assembly regularly. A drop of oil in appropriate spots before reassembling it helps it last and keep working perfectly.

This can opener worked fairly well when brand new, but the cutting performance quickly deteriorated. It is now more than a year old and simply will not open a can. The removable cutting assembly has frozen up and does not puncture or cut the can. This product is a waste of money at any price.
