SoftWorks Snap Lock Can Opener

If this can opener actually belonged to me, I would have thrown it into the nearest trashcan as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it belongs to my in laws, so I find myself using it from time to time when over at their house. I find this to be a most frustrating kitchen tool. It usually takes me 10-15 tries to get the clamp on right in order to open a can. I don't know if the blade is too far from the rest of the tool or what, but on more than one occasion it has it snapped shut, squeezing the skin of my hand in between it painfully, but missing the can completely. When it does actually catch, it opens the can smoothly (the only reason for me giving this 2 stars), but getting to that point is more aggrevation than it seems worth. I'm not an idiot. I know how to use a can opener, yet this one can't seem to perform its function EVER. I personally think the OXO standard steel opener is the best out there, as I have never encountered a problem with it and it opens cans perfectly...Read more

I am currently on my 3rd OXO SoftWorks Snap Lock Can Opener & finally wisened up to save the satisfaction guarantee that comes with it & the receipt. Sadly, I purchased this one on 12.3.08 & it already needs to be replaced. I really think these work awesome in the beginning but now cannot get the opener to stay on the can even while "locked" in place. We have spent such a frustrating amount of time trying to open a can that I'm going to have to really wisen up try a new brand.

This is a very smooth working can opener, it really does what it says....I didn't think locking in place was such a big deal until I tried it....makes opening easier, without that jerky motion when turning, that sometimes spills liquid out of the can.......easier on the wrist too....

Only reservation is the price, which is ok if you get it on sale...
