I have shopped for can openers that actually work over the years - and I was so impressed with this can opener, I had to write a review.

It does take a little to get use to the basic concept to actually mount & use the thing - but after a little experiment & looking at the instructions, I figured out how to use it. It is SO nice that it doesn't leave sharp edges. I left two cans out so my husband could practice - it took him a little while to learn...but after I showed him how, he managed to open the second can. I spent $13 for it at BJs Wholesale -

BUT the pryer thing, that is not designed very well. But I found I don't need it - for when you the can goes around - you feel a little give & know you have completed the circuit around the lid - and it lifts off with relatively little trouble. I would have given it 5 stars otherwise with the exception of this design flaw.

I completely agree with the other review. I too wasted my money on this. It takes several spins around the can to actually complete the cut and then it is extremely impossible to remove the opener without splashing all ingredients on yourself and your kitchen. When I finally "jerked" the opener off the lid (and wore most of the juice) the attached jaws DO NOT assist with pulling the lid off. I was shocked this even passed any test to be put on the market. Each and Every Time I used it, the exact same things kept happening. And YES I was doing it right.

I purchased one of these OXO can openers for about $15 at Target. Right off the bat it didn't open cans as readily as I'd like; I'd have to complete upwards of six full rotations around the can before I could pry the lid off. The little lid-grabbing guys on the side are a good touch only in theory; they quickly bent away from each other and loosened, rendering them mostly incapable of grabbing. Basically we've had to resort to running the can opener around the rim of the can until boredom or carpal tunnel sets in, then pry the lid off with some combination of our hands/the little ineffective grabby guys/various knives. We've never gotten perfectly smooth edges, and the resulting lid is always contorted to the point that it can't sit on top of the can as I (naively) hoped I could achieve.
