Comment: This is the sherman tank of can openers. It's a beast. It will easily grab any sort of can you throw at it.
It even has a knife sharpener in the back, which I do not recall being advertised.

Comment: I had bought this can opener after reading favorable reviews here on Amazon. Unfortunately, this product did not live up to my expectations. First of all, this can opener needs to be reset after every use which involves lifting the locking lever and pushing it in towards the unit. This should only take 5 seconds (or more depending if you are familiar with doing this). However, my gripe is this is a hassle as I could open a can with a standard opener in like 10 seconds. An automatic can opener should be easy to use and most of all.....convenient; having to reset it every time is not. Secondly, the magnet that is suppose to keep the lid from falling into the can when it cuts the can the whole way is weak and rarely works as it loses contact with the top of the can when the can is turning while being opened. Overall, it takes me more time to open a can with this device than with my standard manual can opener (I've timed it). The cutting operation itself is fairly quick but if you take into account having to reset the unit, cleaning the top of the can before you use this opener(since the lid is going to fall into the can 75% of the time), and getting the lid out of the can it just isn't worth the hassle. I've gone back to using my manual can opener after using this Silex plus about a dozen times. I wanted to really like this unit but it takes more work to use it than not.

Comment: I wanted an electric can opener primarily for the knife sharpener. I really don't mind opening cans by hand, but I can't stand dull knives! So I run my first knife thru the groove in the back and voila! ... nothing. No spinning, no grinding. What I discover instead is a piece of white plastic that looks like it's supposed to be removed. I pull on the tab ... nothing.

It turns out that the little white tab IS the knife sharpener, or a "light-duty" sharpener according to the company spokesperson. The sharpener isn't electric nor is there any reason you couldn't mount the 'sharpener' on a piece of cardboard!

This is not what I expected. Shame on Proctor Silex for DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING!

Well, with my arthritis, I needed a can opener that was easy to open.
This works ok....but the opening mechanizism is flimsy and needs to be removed and reset often.
It wasn't expensive, so I guess I shouldn't expect more.
One thing I like about having an electric opener, it works well with the Lefties in the household.
