Oster Can Opener - White (3125)

Comment: I was using hand can openers in the past and was tired of using them and longed for the convenience and speed of an electric can opener. I bought a really REALLY cheap one at Shop Rite for $4.99 on sale and it worked for a year or so, but then just wouldn't open tuna fish cans, I don't know why, I tried different brands of tuna - are the tuna cans made heavier than other canned goods? Anyway, it finally stopped opening any can, so I had to recycle it. By the way Best Buy will recycle it for $10.00 and give you a $10.00 gift card - so it is ultimately free. While using my old reliable manual hand can opener, I researched the electric ones online, mainly at amazon and finally settled on this Oster white can opener. Oster is a solid brand name (we've owned their blender for 50 years!) and I wanted a white can opener, hate the silver and black ones. Uggh. Anyway, I ordered it, got it quickly, tried it and loved it. As the other reviews indicated it IS very quiet, I could talk on the phone and run it at the same time, without my caller asking, what's that? The only drawback I found is again, with those darned tuna fish cans. It will open it a bit, then think it is done and stop. Luckily, all I need to do is push the start button top again and it continues on it's merry way. A slight inconvenience for an otherwise wonderful opener. It is the tall size opener too, so it can handle tall cans very easily. I highly recommend this opener and would definately buy it again.

Comment: First off, I admit that I've always had trouble using can openers. Any can openers. I do have an old fashioned Swingaway that I've used for years and like a lot. I bought this electric one for my mom who has arthritis. She claimed she couldn't use it, so I proceeded to show her how. Well, I did open ONE can without trouble. The edge was quite jagged, but the lid was held nicely on a magnet. After that bit of beginner's luck tho, I had nothing but trouble. The can would stall while the machine made its noise but did not turn the can. The can had a little hole about the size of a pea. I tried several times before it would finally work. The same thing happened with the next can. My mom didn't try it herself, tho my stepfather did and was unimpressed. I warned them about the sharp cutting surface and suggested they return the machine. Again, it could just be me, since I've always had this kind of trouble.

Comment: So far so good. However, it is difficult to place the can to be opened appropriately for the can opener to connect and open the can. I say this a medium product.

Comment: I've got 4 elec/battery can openers in my house....none of them work and even when they did they were a pain. So far my new opener is the greatest.

Comment: I just wanted a simple can opener and it had to be white. Works fine and great price too. It also is a little taller then others so it will open those tall cans without a problem. Fast shipping and well packaged.
