Oster Branded Hand Can Opener

It looked good, it felt good in the hand, it came with trustworthy name, Oster, on the handle, and it worked beautifully on the first can I opened. But that was also the last time it worked. The very next can I tried, the cutting wheel bit into the metal lid just fine but turning the handle did nothing. The can did not rotate at all -- I may as well have been spinning a handle that was not connected to anything. Was it maybe the can? No, I tried the opener on a different kind of can, and it still didn't work at all. I have no idea how a product as simple as a can opener could be constructed with such shoddiness.
