So far, it has worked every time. Just tighten down the top knob finger-tight, grab the lever arm, and twist. Starting to twist locks down the grip on the lid, so there is no slippage. Clever design, plus the usual bomb-proof Kuhn-Rikon construction.

I have painful arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. (among other issues)
I love finding tools to keep myself independent and functioning because I hate having to ask for help for every little thing.

I ordered this jar opener when I had to wait til my husband got home to open a simple jar of pickles.
It was the last staw.
I have several other jar opener tools that work sometimes, but this one blows them away!

It is easy to use and works every time I've used it. The handle is easy to grip and get leverage. The teeth grip the lid nicely without causing damage to the lid. The lid releases again easily with a small twist of the lever.

I am so happy to get a small measure of my independence back.
Opening jars is no longer painful or frustrating!
My only regret is that I hadn't found this item sooner.

I'd recommend this jar opener to anyone who has had the frustration of not being able to open a tight jar.

I got this for stuck lids, but it occured to me that I could just use it on all lids and avoid the strain. Why fight a jar lid and then look for the opener; just use it when you open a jar. It is really engineered well and is good quality. It doesn't have the weight I expected, but it is heavy enough and works really well.
