It is comfortable, locks on automatically and after it has made it around the lid it lets go by simply reversing direction. Replacing a Pampered Chef can opener that was fine for about a year then became too dull. At this point would definitely buy another one of these even if it only lasted as long as the Pampered Chef one because of the single handle design and color choices.
