Product Review

This soft handle can opener goes easy on the hands when turning thanks to a comfortable soft grip knob and handles. The high-carbon steel blade handles all your can opening needs. A magnet keeps the can lid from falling back into the can, and also allows for no-touch removal and disposal of sharp can lids right into the garbage.

Great can opener - easy to hold because the handles are silicone rather than a hard plastic, and the large handle makes this easy to turn. I have difficult with my hands and needed something that would be easy to use. I like this version better than the other shiny Kitchen Aid versions. I've had it for over a year and not a single malfunction (knock on wood!)

Bought one locally because it looked sturdy and had a metal handle. Previously, I had bought a less expensive opener with a plastic handle and after opening about a dozen cans, the handle no longer would turn the metal shaft. Used the Kitchenaid to open one can. When trying to open a second can, it kept dropping the can into the sink. The mechanism has a spring that seems to help make contact, so I moved the spring a bit to try to reset the tension. It still kept dropping the can. After a few more tries, the metal shaft broke at the base of the handle. The shaft metal looks really cheap.

It is hard to know these days when buying a name brand item whether it was designed by the people whose name is on it or is a vendor item they relabeled, or even worse, they licensed their name for someone else to use. In this case, I suspect the latter.
