I purchased my Kitchen Aid can opener at TJ Maxx. I have loved it. It works great. I've had it for over 6 months and it's gotten a lot of use. My daughter commented at Thanksgiving dinner preparations about how great it was so I bought her one too. She loves hers as well.
It is the best can opener I've ever had and it cost me the least. It opens any can very smoothly and cleanly. It easily grips and lifts the lid off after opening the can. It feels great in your hand while you work with it and it looks beautiful.
In reading the other two reviews I feel like we must be talking about two different openers. It takes a lot for me to be a 'cheerleader' for a can opener but I am very happy with mine and my daughter loves hers too.
Excellent - don't buy @ TJMaxx,

I have owned this can opener for over 6 years and it works perfectly. The gears are smooth and the cutting edge is sharp. The negative reviews seem to be from people who bought this at TJ Maxx or some other second-rate store. Buy it online and it will be fine.

Like some other reviewers, I bought my KitchenAid Classic Can Opener at TJ Maxx late in 2011. I had been through a string of manual can openers before buying this one. They all had the same ridiculous angle to the cutting disk (what I guess must now be standard in the business) for what I can only figure is an attempt to create a smooth cut on the can itself. However, none of them was actually cutting the lids completely off the cans! In fact, as I turned the knob, I could watch the rim of the can twist and warp as it was forced between the cutting disk and the gear beneath the cutting disk. More often than not, the cutting disk would pop out of the lid no matter how much force I exerted on the handles. Only after going back and forth over the same area could I finally get the lid cut there.
So, I decided to buy the KitchenAid can opener figuring that it would be a quality product since it had the KitchenAid brand name. After all, I have a number of KitchenAid products in...Read more
