This opener cuts into the side of the can. I opened salmon and salmon juice poured on my desk. Because the supporting metal band is gone, the remaining can's sides cave in when you pick it up (so you can clean your desk). Since the band is gone and the sides are so weak, you can't use the plastic tops to preserve the leftovers.

After purchasing a number of can openers in the last few years for up to $10 - none that worked and finished in the bin, I took a bit of time to research. This is when I came across the Jamie Oliver product and I sensed that it looks like a bit of thought got into its development and the quality of materials, plus a bit of style.
It was my last effort to try once more before giving up cans for good. But the magic happened this time, this is the most fabulous instrument and is completely different to anything else I have used, including electric openers. A child could use it. It just snaps into place and does the job with a few gentle twists and allows the lid to be discarded with a gentle click of a button.
I can not see how any other can opener can be sold, if you tried this one. Pure magic!
If you do use cans it is an absolute must have equipment.

This can opener does not work at all. Definitely did not like it. I was very disappointed in this product.
