I open about fifty cans per year, so this opener is perfect for me. I never have to worry about cutting myself. I never have to use a fork to fish out a lid that has fallen inside a can. I never have to wiggle a lid (after an incomplete cut) to break it off. I don't devote any counter space to an electric opener. And I never, never have to clean foodgunk off the blade.
I have had two of these and each of them lasted 2-3 years before succumbing to the same problem. My current one has a Good Cook nameplate on it, but it is exactly the same design as the one pictured here. After about two years, I have found that I can no longer get a good clamp-lock and there is no resistance when I turn the crank. This is because the cylinder works itself loose from the winding crank. I have not found a way to fix this. If not for that, this would be a five-star review. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By Catskill Jason (Mid Hudson Valley, New York, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Chefmate® Safe Cut Can Opener - Black I can understand that some people find they want the instructions with this can opener. It operates in a very different way than most people have used them for their entire lives. On this can opener the "cutting metal edge" lays horizontal instead of vertically. So it cuts the can at a 90 degree angle different that what you are used to. The neat thing about this can opener is that after you open the can the lid can be placed back on top of the can to store the contents. Not sure everyone would want to do that. But for a day of storage it can be useful. I would certainly have no problems recommending this especially for the price ($10). I have used more expensive ones which have now gotten rusty. This one might get rusty too but does give you some extra functionality which I did not have with other can openers. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Chefmate® Safe Cut Can Opener - Black Avoid this product unless you want to replace it every 6 months. Cutting wheel wears out if you use it more than 4 or 5 times a week and there is no replacing the cutting wheel. "Cheap Material" |
