The name Swing-A-Way, simply put, is an American classic. The original Swing-A-Way, introduced in 1938, was a wall-mounted can opener with a bracket that allowed the strong sturdy unit to swing back against the wall of a butler's pantry when not in use, hence the name. In 1945, the company pioneered a gear-driven cutting wheel that revolutionized can opening. In the 1950's the company launched the first heavy-duty, handheld can opener, the legendary Model 407 that incorporated the best features of the wall model. The rest is history. This Swingaway ergonomic crank can opener features a long handle and large crank design that eliminates stress on the hands. This opener works great for large cans. The handle folds for easy storage and the soft rubber grips provide comfort and security. As always, Swingaway features durable metal construction.

I am the kind of person who has never been fond of electric can openers. I prefer manual can openers. I am now a senior and this can opener solves the problem of turning the handle more easily. I am pleased. I find the handle is a bit long, but it certainly is better than struggling with a regular manual can opener. I would recommend this to any senior or someone with arthritis as a good solution.

I bought this to replace a very similar can opener that had one of those twist handles which was tiring my wrists out when opening a half a dozen cans at a time. I like this one much better than an electric can opener because it saves kitchen counter space and I can actually open cans of any size faster.

Pros:
The grip is long so that you have clearance when you're turning the handle.
The black knob on the handle folds in so that it's a bit more compact for storage.

Cons:
It's not terribly easy to keep steady since you're turning a long handle but you get the hang of it after a few uses.

Good design. Could be better if cutter was more readily removable for cleaning and replacement and constructed of heavier and perhaps stainless materials; but, if used properly, it cuts like a bandit. Like so much other stuff these days it's made in China.
