Amazon.com Review
Don't mess with a classic: the Swing-A-Way can opener not only boasts a Good Housekeeping award, but was also the first can opener in outer space. Thanks to a patented gear-driven cutting wheel, the opener requires less elbow grease to turn the crank, and the rubberized handles cushion your hands from what little work they're doing. Simple, classic, and well designed, the can opener includes a small built-in bottle opener, as well as a five-year limited warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

Summary: This is it! Easy to use, well made 2010-03-05
Comment: We received a Swing-a-way can opener when we were married 29 years ago, we used it until about 5 years ago, it was worn out. Never able to find another until now. Spent too much on KitchenAid and other "top-line" openers, they always lost their cutting edge quickly. This one is easy to turn, cuts perfect, not quite as sturdy as I remember, but far better then any other I've tried.
Customer Rating: 4 Star
Summary: Mine has lasted for 21 years 2010-02-23
Comment: I bought this can opener so many years ago I can't remember where I purchased it, but it's the most durable manual can opener anyone can buy. It will outlast any electric can opener on the market for sure.

The grip on it is huge and since my hands are small, sometimes it's a little hard to clamp down onto the can and hold onto. It also doesn't work so well on a small tomato paste can, those require my cheap can opener reserved just for the tomato paste can--- but everything else - it's much easier to turn the gear/blade with this style of opener. Those large 28 ounce diced tomato cans are now a piece-of-cake to open. Mine is looking a little rusted because of its age and frequent washing, but it still works like a charm.

Summary: The Best Can Opener 2010-01-06
Comment: We owned an expensive Kitchen Aid can opener for a many years. It was a piece of junk that butchered cans and required divine intervention to actually open a can. After years of frustration, we replaced it with the Amco Swing-A-Way Portable Can Opener. It earned consistently high reviews on Amazon, plus it was simple and relatively inexpensive. This is by far the best can opener we have ever used. It opens cans! And it opens cans consistently, always on the first try, without any jagged edges or perforations. If you need a reliable can opener, buy this one.

Summary: It's a keeper! 2010-01-03
Comment: I got this can opener when I moved into my first apartment, that was in May 1986. It has worked all these years and has been so easy and reliable.
Customer Rating: 5 Star
Summary: Solid 2009-12-28
Comment: After owning several plastic-rubber-metal abominations, this can opener entered my kitchen and hasn't left since. It's solid metal from end to end, with rubber coating the handle ends. It pierces and grips cans with confidence while you open them - it's very satisfying to use overall. I have no doubt that it will last for years.
