This review is from: Amco Swing-A-Way 107BK Compact Can Opener, Black (Kitchen) I purchased this can opener on Amazon in December of 2009, to replace one of the same brand purchased over 10 years ago that finally gave up the ghost. What a difference! Despite the picture being used by Amazon (which clearly shows the product stamped "Made in the USA"), the can opener that arrived is stamped "Made in China." Worse than that, the new version is obviously of much-lesser quality than the "real" thing. The metal is lighter-weight and the machining of the gears/cutting assembly is much less precise. When you pick up an older Amco can opener, it feels like quality, and you know you're going to open a can without a problem. When you pick up the version being sold by Amazon in December of 2009, it feels like a toy, and you have to wonder if the next can it opens will be its last. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By Rusty (CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Amco Swing-A-Way 107BK Compact Can Opener, Black (Kitchen) This can opener works pretty well, but it is too small if you use it often. The grip handles are too short, and the turning handle feels too close to the body and it too is too short. Go for the bigger one for a few bucks more. Yes....can openers like these are overpriced, but what can you do? 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By Alex C "Alex" (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Amco Swing-A-Way 107BK Compact Can Opener, Black (Kitchen) I have had various handheld can openers and electric ones. For the price, this one is amazing. There are handheld ones that have a similar look but just take a lot of effort to turn. This compares to a much nicer, much bulkier, (more expensive) handheld. |
